Just in time for Valentines Day...........
Black as jet, the male Phainopepla gleams in the early morning sun.
The female has a much softer grey hue.
When not obligingly posing for photos, both of them are happily feasting on the mistletoe which is fruiting right now.

You photo of the Mrs is especially stunning!
The crests make them look quite majestic!
Thanks Kathie, I think she was a little chilly so I was able to get a few shots off without her moving.
You are right EG Wow they do!
Gorgeous beauties! You capture them well.
Beautiful captures. Anyone would think they were posing for you :D
It does look like they posed. I am always so interested in the different coloring between males and female birds..but how nice that they live in a warm climate and that you get to stay there too Celeste.. Have a wonderful week...Michelle
Thanks Leora, I take masses of shots in the hope that one or two will come out OK!
Hi Soho Stitch,
This particular species favours perching on the tips of branches so it makes them an easier target for my camera than some other species.
Hi Michelle,
Sexual dimorphism is a funny thing isn't it? I do get kind of fed up with the females always getting the raw deal though! :)
