Pre Dawn Light

I never have been very good at getting up early in the morning. My Mom always used to have to force me out of bed to go to school and I certainly have no desire to get up in the morning in the city, especially as the vast majority of time it is to go to work - not a great incentive! But in the desert it is different, I am often up and out before the sun has risen.

There is a wonderful gentleness to the early hours before the heat of the desert begins to take hold. The softness of air is matched by the softness of colours.

I also love the opportunity to walk around our land and read the signs of who and what has passed our way during the night, it is rather like reading a nature journal written on the land.

A wonderful peaceful way to start the day and get in a positive frame of mind to face whatever the day may bring.

I'm not a good morning person either, but sometimes it's worth the effort. Your captures of the early desert certainly qualify.

I wasn't a morning person until I became addicted to birding. Some nights I can't sleep before such things. It has to be before people get there and ruin everything:) I am quiet as are the wild things and I am always rewarded by such incredible things....and those moments here in the desert between darkness and light last for maybe 30 to 60 minutes when people, dogs, and bikers begin their days and loud conversations on the trails. It's the most peaceful day of perfection and the reason I move quickly just so I can get to the spot before the moment is spoiled:) Great post Celeste.

It certainly is worth getting up early Gaelyn, as long as I don't have to be ready to go anywhere else I am OK! :)

Thanks Michelle. I hope time will soothe your loss, thinking of you.

Hi Chris, I am not as disciplined as you I am afraid, my land is about as far as I get early on but it is definitely worth while. Such a precious time of the day.

Hi Jessica, Thanks for stopping by. Yes I am very close to Saguaro NP east. I have hundreds of teddy bear chollas on my land. Not unusual to end up wearing pieces of them I'm afraid!
