I Feel So Foolish
I am very familiar with cicadas. When I lived in Zambia we could set our watch by the cicadas that cranked up at the exact same time every day to a deafening level. In Chicago we have the dog day cicadas as well as the 17 year eruption. But I have to confess I have absolutely no recollection of hearing a cicada in Tucson and yet here is the proof, the exuvium of a newly emerged cicada right in my yard. How could I have missed them?

How do you miss them? They are so loud in June. We have them all over our midtown neighborhood....especially at El Presidio. Pretty cool bugs, huh?
The shells are neat, great find.. I would not miss their sounds.. Enjoy your day.
Celeste, I would say the same thing as Chris. I think they all hang out downtown! I know we had a few up in Corona de Tucson but when I would come into town to shop the sound would be deafening in the parking lots! I guess it is because you are often out of the country in June and you spend more time in the wilderness than you do shopping! and THAT'S a good thing!
I know Chris! I always hear them when I am in town or in more wooded areas but I seriously do not recall ever hearing them around my house, crazy isn't it?
Thanks Eileen. They are pretty wild looking aren't they?
You know me too well Kathie, I am not much of one for shopping :)
I have heard them down town certainly but I just don't recall hearing them around our house. Maybe I have a special silent subspecies!!! ;)
