Rewards for Bravery

The Antelope Squirrels are always front and centre when it comes to picking up fallen seeds underneath the feeders in the yard but the Round-tailed Ground Squirrel is always much more hesitant. Normally all I ever see is a flash of tail disappearing under the gate as I walk into the yard.

I was sitting quietly reading when this beautiful little individual finally plucked up enough courage to forage amongst the rocks and aloes. It kept a very close eye on me though and if I so much as moved a muscle it would scurry into a gap in the rocks before cautiously reappearing for another snack.

What a sweet little face. I am so glad it is learning that I mean no harm.

  9. He's awfully cute and quite plump, too. His shyness hasn't caused him to miss too many meals :)

  11. Celeste, you sound so happy here! Have you finally found a new home for your heart?

BTW, so sorry I have not been around much lately. I do think of you. it has been quite a busy year and I thought it was finally starting to slow down but now it will be more intense with my Mom having cancer.

Still, I am SO Happy for you that you have this place to escape to!

  13. I think so Kathie. I am so content when I am out amongst all the wildlife. It brings me great peace. I hope some day you will be able to come and visit.
I was so sorry to hear about your Mom, I do hope that she makes a full and speedy recovery. She is very lucky to have you for support during such a difficult time. I will be thinking of you.
